My target is behind a very secure network and I know only some of the architecture and security of the network. I'm trying to edit only very specific files sent from the user to a specific location on the network. I haven't pressed too hard into trying many doors yet, just probing and recording what I find. I cannot be sure from what location the user will send my target file but I know it has to happen from his user account. The file I believe will be in .xls format.
What I'm asking is would a good way in to be to use some sort of tracking script bound to an email? I haven't figured out if the user has their network email sent to their phone or what sort of phone he uses. I have considered also targeting his home computer to intercept credentials, however I'm afraid accessing the network from any other location could trip security measures.
The network is broad and complex consisting on several different servers linked through different VPN's, fileservers, and third party security systems. There are at least 3 layers of access the first being the common user, which I have an account to, the second being an upper-tier level which the user is on and the top most layer being the network administration layer watching over it all. There are hundreds of nodes and access points, but navigating from one to the other (unusual requests and activity) trips security measures.
Finally, I have considered physical means such as signals interception or wiretapping. However, I have little experience with all of that.
Any ideas or tips? I will answer any questions the best I can.

Hey Astlavista Buddies!
I picked up the latest Men's Health mag' a week ago on holiday and came across "100k pay jobs" the first job in the article was an Ethical Hacker!
The columns went on to say everything we already know about the CEH exams and how people can get around them without paying.
Which is by completing some hacking challenges on a UK Government Security Site.
