Thanks for DC101 at DC19

I just wanted to post a quick "Thank You" to all the people involved with DefCon 101.

I think overall it was a good time and a fun event.

We did learn a few lessons this year that will be carried forward to make 101 at DC20 an even more awesome event.

One of those being a small T-Shirt Cannon. To be honest, I was not expecting to fill the seats in Track 1 and have that huge a turnout.

I think I'll stop here, before I start rambling and have to "Blah Blah Blah" myself. But I did want to once again thank everyone who was involved (Those on stage and those attendees) for participating in DC101 this year.

Specific People to thank (in no particular order):

Lockheed, GM1, AlxRogan, Pyr0, Lost, Siviak, Roamer, Xodia, Ripshy, Medic, Eris, Vandal, Gayhackers.org, Neil, Nikita, TheSummit, Runnerup, The "Name that n00b" participants, and everyone who attended 101.

I hope you all liked your shirts.

And really, I hope you all enjoyed yourself (half) as much as I did.

Roamer

Roamer is the Sr. Goon in charge of the DEF CON Vendor Area. He ran the DEF CON WarDriving Contest for the first four years of it's existence. He's also one of the guitarists in the Goon band"Recognize". He has been a professional penetration tester for the past 12 years and has about 15 years of IT Security experience. He's been on the DEF CON staff since DEF CON 8.

Lockheed

Lockheed is the Sr. Goon in charge of the DefCon Network Operations Group. Professionally, Lock has over 25 years of experience in the technology field. He's had jobs ranging from tech writer to mainframe operator to product engineer and product marketing manager. Currently Lock is a Sr. Global Director for Sony PlayStation Worldwide Studios running the Global IT Group. He's been on DefCon staff since DefCon 4.

Nikita

Nikita says "If you don't smoke Tarryltons, Fuck you."

GodMinusOne

GodMinusOne is a team lead on the DefCon security staff, organizer of the Toxic BBQ and SushiCon, guitarist in the Goon band "Recognize" and a member of the Shmoo Group. He has been attending the conference since DefCon 7 and has been on staff since DefCon 10. If you find what he has to say useful – buy him me a beer.

Pyr0

Pyr0 is the asshole who oversees the Contests and Events at DEF CON. He's been attending since DEF CON 6 and a goon since DEF CON 7. One of those 3 0 3 peoples and also rolls deep with Security Tribe. Loves good vodka, smart girls, explosives, and big black . . . guns. Has the ability to tell a man to go to hell so that he looks forward to the trip. ALSO:DONGS

Two more speakers to go....

I can probably accept one (1) more speaker at DefCon 101. So if you think that person should be you.. Email me*, and convince me.

*being able to follow directions will go a long way in being able to convince me.
If you send me a PM, instead of an email (like I asked for) it automatically disqualifies you.
Follow directions

Planning underway

DefCon 101 Planning is underway. There will be some things done differently this year, so it should be relevant to both new and old DefCon Attendees alike. Some previous speakers will be returning and some new speakers (like Roamer) will be gracing DC101 with their presence for the first time. We already have some cool giveaways and prizes in the works, so stay tuned for further updates.

I don't expect to make too many more updates about the event before the first of the year.

Thanks & Boos

DefCon 101 : Thanks & Boos.

Thanks to everyone who came out for DefCon 101, I hope you all enjoyed it.

Thanks to all the presenters : GodMinusOne, Jenn, Lockheed, Pyr0, Siviak, Lost

Thanks also to Eris, Vandal, Xodia and Ripshy.

Thanks to all the "world domination" game contestants for being good sports, especially those who got new names on stage (Buttercup, Soulless, etc...)

Thanks to our speaker goon who I think we confused the shit out of.

Thanks to All the people who attended and came up to talk to me afterward and throughout con.

Thanks to all the DefCon Veterans who came out to the event to show their support.

Most importantly Thanks to Runnerup for everything.

Kudo's to everyone who made Avatar Badges and wore them around con.

Boo to that certain person, for not showing up to present after they said they would.

I think it was a very good event this year, we had a few hiccups but for the most part things went as planned. The lessons learned should make things better for next year.

I preemptively apologize if I forgot to thank someone specifically.

badges?

So my flight lands @ 12:30, I wanna catch as much of DC101 as possible.

Will it be possible to put off buying my con badge til afterwards? Or will I not be able to get in without a badge?

The Fun Announcement

|
There's no question that I'm a really weird guy, so here's my "fun" announcement for DefCon 101. And by "fun" I mean it was fun to write, not necessarily fun to read.

T-Shirts Donated by IVU

A book, you know, or maybe two

TheEFF Summit has donated some passes

Legally speaking, they're hardcore badasses

Perhaps, Perhaps a Secret Prize

From the Mystery Challenge, I do surmise

You think you know, but you may be Wrong

A clue you'll have, if you play along

The Scavenger Hunt will be up on the stage

DualDFlipFlop is their brand new paige

Eris and Siviak and Vandal, Oh my

Hack the Contest and you may get by

Lost, his game, your mind may break

The puzzles and challenges will keep you awake

Lockheed and Jenn and GM1 there

The knowledge they have is something quite rare

Pyr0 will show, that contests are cool

Join in the fun and you'll be no fool

DT may tell us where DefCon is going

I don't believe, that attendance is slowing

World Domination is a game to be played

At least the gay hackers don't want a parade

Runnerup is the man with the plan

I really am a super huge fan

I think, my rhyming, will soon stand and halt

If you didn't enjoy it, it isn't my fault

Perhaps you should join us on Thursday at one

The Prizes, The Games, The Talks will be fun

And Now I must leave you, but think on this well

When Sunday comes and you leave the hotel

Will you think back, on your DefCon Story

With thoughts of regret, or those of glory?

DefCon 101 is Thursday July 29th at 1pm

DefCon 101 Announcement

|
So here's the full announcement and details in one place.

DefCon 101 is Back!

DefCon 101 is the Alpha to the closing ceremonies Omega. It's the place to go to learn about the many facets and aspects of DefCon as well as begin your Defconian Adventure. Whether you're a n00b or a long time attendee, DefCon 101 can start you on the path to making the most of your DefCon Experiences.

This year some DefCon veterans will give a brief glimpse into their own journey and speak about how they've gotten involved with the Community. You'll also hear from the man himself (DT). Pyr0, will be talking about the contests and games this year at DefCon (and there's a lot of new ones!) while HighWiz will be wrapping up the first hour with a DefCon Survival Talk.

After a ten minute intermission we'll be right back...

DefCon 101 is Sponsored by Runnerup, HighWiz and the letters F, A, and G.

We'll be trying something new this year with the inclusion of three mini-games that we hope will give your the opportunity to actually participate on a new level with some of the groups involved in DefCon.

Lost and his Mystery Challenge will be running one mini-game while Siviak and the Scavenger Hunt Pirates (Vandal & Eris) run another. The third "World Domination" is sponsored by gayhackers.org.
