Email sent to contestants

I've sent an email to the contestants with details on the event. There is a bit of complexity currently going on with the last team spot; some of the possible people to fill said spot haven't given me their email addresses yet, but everyone _ELSE_ should have just received an email from me (mark at [the fish in my forum handle] dot com).

Of course, as I type this, I see a bounce message. *sigh* I'll go take care of that.

In any case. If you think you're signed up and didn't just receive an email from me (check yer spam filter first, fer the sake of Pete), let me know and I'll make sure I have the right email address on file for you.

Register for Crash and Compile

Starting a new thread to give it more visibility when scanning topics. I'll update this post with the current roster as people register.

If you're interested in playing in Crash and Compile, now is the time to register! We're only taking 8 competing teams this year, plus Team Control Group (see below), and Team Distraction (also see below.)

Current team list:
  1. Psychoholics Return! If "winning" is measured in how drunk you are at the end of the night, the Psychoholics won CnC2010 hands down. They had the d20 Of Languages last year, what are they bringing this year? You'll have to come and see!
  2. Frink Rules!
  3. Cuban Raft Riders
  4. Fuck PBR
  5. -
  6. -
  7. -
  8. -
  9. Control Group:
  10. Distraction:

Registration: If you want to play, DM me with the following information:

1: Team name
2: Contestants' names or handles
3: Contestants' email address. (Don't worry, I won't use it for anything not directly related to this year's game.)

When and Where: I don't know yet. I just turned in the RFI to Pyr0, but as soon as I find out, I'll update y'all.

How much: Again, I don't know. We're at a new hotel and I don't know the rules here yet. If it's anything like last year, it'll be $50 entrance fee, which includes 6 bottles of beer. Additional beer can be purchased at the event for $7/bottle.

To be clear: The $50 covers the beer, and a little bit more to (almost) cover my expenses. The $7/beer is a few cents shy of covering the beer. I'm not trying to make money on you, nor am I paying for you to get drunk. The beer costs will be as close to what I pay as is feasible.

Teams: Complete rules are on the website. There will be 8 competing (read: drinking) teams, plus one Team Control Group (a non-drinking team against which all the drinking teams are compared), and one Team Distraction (a non-programming team doing their best to, uhh, distract the programmers.)

If you've got any questions about the game, costs, or anything else, feel free to hit me up here, or in DM. I'm also available as @CrashAndCompile on Twitter, or hit me up personally as @SmittyHalibut.

I'm really looking forward to this year. Good luck! -Mark

"It's a Programming Contest!"
"No, it's a Drinking Game!"
"It's a PROGRAMMING CONTEST!"
"DRINKING GAME!"
"DESSERT TOPPING!"
"FLOOR WAX!"

Crash And Compile WILL be back this year at DefCon! We had a great time last year and want to do it again.

*goes and checks the webpage* Well, fuck. I'm about a week late. The domain expired and has been squatted upon. I'm working on getting that back. In the mean time, hit up crashandcompile.halibut.com

TEAMS! We need teams! We're taking up to 8 teams of 1 or 2 people each. Please either DM me (SmittyHalibut) the following information:

1: Team Name
2: Contestants' names or handles
3: Contestants' email addresses (Don't worry, I won't send you anything not directly related to this year's game.)

If you're asking yourself, "What the fuck is Crash and Compile?" The short version is at the top of this post: It's about what you would expect when you cross an ACM style programming contest with a drinking game, warts and all. For more details, check last year's forum threads, or hit up the website for complete rules.

Any post mortem info on this? I was there this year, found out about it a little too late. Think you guys will run this next year?

Stick a fork in me, we’re done. Registration is closed. Well, sorta…

That's it, we've got all 10 competing team slots filled. What do ya know...

Having said that, there are a few things we're still looking for:

- Always accepting more Team Distraction applications. ;-)
- Still need a Team Control Group. (Can do the game without one, but it's always fun.)
- I'll make room for a Team Goon, were one to step forward. If you've got a red badge and want to compete, we'll make it happen. :-D

Contestants: Expect an email from me soon with more information. This one, you will _NEED_ to respond to, so actually read it please. :-)

Where is Team Goon? [edited]

We NEED a Team Goon. Where are you guys? Don't be n00bs, prove you're not just script kiddies... I won't rest until at least one of y'all signs up. I realize this is Saturday evening, but you can't ALL be on duty...

/me throws down the gauntlet (again)
